Arcade Game: Diner Dash 2
The first time that I played Diner Dash 2 was a couple of weeks or months ago and I had that curious feeling that the game reminds me of something but I could not nail it down right away until today. I was taking a shower and then I remembered that other bar-tending game that I played in the mid-eighties on my trusted 4 MHz 8086 machine. Ow yes. That was a computer. And a game. Had a lot of fun back then. And this new version is just about every bit as good as the old one used to be. (And some!)
Of course it's basically still all about getting stuff to some impatient customers.. All those memories are coming back now. Back then the customers were some rough guys that wanted beer and would kind of beat you up or so if you were too slow I think. Wish I could remember the name of that game (If anyone of you happens to know it then please e-mail me) so as to find a screenshot to show you. Would not make a fair comparison though as I used to play on a 320x240 screen that hardly allowed for stick figures in the good old days while Diner Dash 2 has some real eye candy ready.
Same thing with the gameplay. There is a lot more depth in this all-new game. You get a story, you get power-ups. There are tips now and it's not only tapping mugs of beer any more. You have to take orders, bring the food to the tables, clean up, collect money, match seat colors and customer colors, choose decoration for your restaurant and what not.
The game starts out really simple with great in-game tutorials but after a couple of levels it's not so easy any more to get an expert ranking and you will have to plan ahead where to send Flo first and in which order to serve tables and how to keep at least one of her hands free for her next task. (Somehow I feel that once we make contact with other civilizations in outer space that sooner or later all the waiting jobs will be taken by guys with a half-dozen tentacles on each side.)
Music, sound, graphics, gameplay. Everything is just right. Do yourself a favor and give this game a try.
